Texas high school traditions rested on Friday night football and mums. Period. If you had a date to the football game, your date gave you a mum. This was not just a single chrysanthemum, but a bloom adorned with ribbons and badges showing your school colors and allegiance. The more popular you and the guy were, the more extravagant the arrangement. All through high school, I had mum envy. I went to college in Texas too; mum envy for 4 years. So here’s a plethora of mums for all of us to wear whether we received one in high school or not.
